Zoom In: The Photo That Reminded Me My Voice Still Matters

I’ve been wrestling with imposter syndrome as of late. The reasons are layered, but at the heart of it is that nagging voice that says, “Maybe my voice doesn’t matter.”

Then two of my friends at Durham County Library, Lakesia Farmer and Claudia Aleman unknowingly poured fuel back into my spirit.

If you zoom in on the right, you’ll see my daughter’s debut children’s book, The Rules of a Little Boss. In the center? The flyer for Empowerment Unleashed, the workshop series my team and I developed with Durham County Library. What started as a program for displaced families at Families Moving Forward is expanding. We’re opening the doors to the public, welcoming residents from TROSA, FMF, and beyond.

That little spark from Lakesia and Claudia reminded me my voice does matter. It gave me the strength to deliver a forum on effective communication yesterday where everything that could go wrong from a technical standpoint went wrong… and still have participants call it “brilliant.”

And a huge thank-you to Durham County Library, NC Works, and our sponsors for their dedication to serving the community.

We invite you to join us on September 29th at Durham County Main Library for an engaging session. You can find registration details by going here. And we hope to see you there.
