Review of the Chipped Cup

Kate Lynn Winters was born and raised in New York. She is the youngest of three siblings in a very close-knit Catholic family. She relocated to Virginia to give her children a better life. Sadly that’s where her troubles began. Those troubles led her on a journey towards writing her first book, The Chipped Cup. It was published through Covenant Books on July 5, 2022.

I purchased a copy of it after meeting Kate at a book signing event at Two Scoops, Rock Hill for Markeeter Knox on July 23, 2022. She shared that she was a fellow author like Markeeter and myself but that she had not done much marketing of the book. We then inquired what the book was about and how we could go about supporting her in purchasing a copy. She shared that her book could be purchased via either Amazon or Barnes and Noble. I hurriedly added it to my cart and purchased it as she shared that would take on a poignant journey through her life with respect to the impending passing of her sister, unraveling of long-hidden family secrets, custody battles, and restoration through Christ.

I received the copy of the book in the mail on July 30, 2022 and I immediately started reading it. I was so enthralled by her story that I completed my reading in three days. I literally carried it around with me everywhere that I went including to church. I could fully identify with the retelling of her story as I too have lost the person that was closest to me, my Granny during the most difficult time of my life.

The Chipped Cup is replete with not only Kate’s story but also emotionally touching letters and prayers that she wrote and/or spoke during her life. One of those prayers moved me to finally forgive someone that I’ve long since held animosity towards. That in and of itself is part of the true beauty of The Chipped Cup.

If I were going to say anything negative about the book, it would be that the publisher didn’t include a table of contents in the front of the book. Not only that but they left a great deal of white space on the rear cover. That white space could’ve been used to for a myriad of things to include additional information about the author, professional reviews, a picture of the author, or a combination the sort. Notwithstanding, none of those things take away from the true beauty of this book as it’s an amazing read by and large.
