I'm thrilled to share the incredible experience my family and I had at our very first Juneteenth Celebration. Saturday, June 17, 2023. From dancing and laughter to delicious food and unexpected surprises, this event was nothing short of amazing.
Haelee, Vanessa, and I were immediately wrapped in love from the moment that we stepped into the festivities at Paul Henry Smith Park. Dancing, laughter, and games filled the air as we embraced the spirit of Juneteenth. And guess what? I even had the honor of posing with the Icon Championship Belt! It was an exhilarating moment that made me feel like a true champion, alongside the crown that symbolized the celebration of royalty and freedom.
To our surprise, Herndon Hooker of the Detroit Lions made an appearance. As a native of Greensboro, NC, and a graduate of Dudley High School, his presence was a source of inspiration for many children, especially those who are passionate about sports. Herndon engaged with the kids, leading sports drills, signing autographs, and posing for pictures. It was heartwarming to witness their adulation and excitement.
One of the highlights of the day was reconnecting with old friends and forging new connections. Our dear friend Sandra Bartell was among them, and we were amazed by the numerous connections we shared. Little did I know that Sandra had a surprise in store for me. I was unexpectedly put on the spot to deliver an impromptu speech about The Rules of a Big Boss business journey. While hesitant at first, I mustered up the courage to embrace the moment and prevent Sandra from entertaining any "bright" ideas she might have had! 😄
To make the day even more special, we took a stroll around the park and immersed ourselves in a captivating story walk. Liberty Public Library came up with this ingenious idea of combining reading with exercise, promoting a healthy mind and body. It was an immersive experience that left a lasting impression on us, enhancing the overall beauty of the day.
As the day unfolded, we realized that the Juneteenth Celebration felt like a heartwarming family reunion. The sense of unity and shared joy was infectious, and the event created an environment where new connections were made, old friendships were rekindled, and a deeper appreciation for our heritage was fostered.
